Parents can be an important tool to support their children.
General
- Look through your child’s communication book regularly
- Sign the communication book on a weekly basis to ensure effective communication between the school and the home
- Contact the relevant Progress Leader if you have an enquiry or concern
- Ensure that your child has the necessary equipment for each of his/her lessons
- Ensure that your child has a suitable place to work at home
- Look through your child’s books regularly
- Ask your child what he/she has learned in school
- Discuss academic development with your child
- Discuss time management strategies with your child
- Discuss career prospects with your child
- Remember to praise your child’s success and progress
- Control and monitor your child’s use of the internet
Revision
- Encourage your child to attend any extra sessions e.g. after school revision sessions
- Search relevant websites e.g. WJEC/GCSE Bitesize to find extra revision resources that supports the learning that happens in school
- Establish an agreed revision timetable. Shorter periods of revision are more effective than longer periods i.e. periods of 20 minutes are better than a period of 2 hours
- Discuss the ‘big picture’ with your child
